Producers
looking for a screenwriter:
Are
you looking for someone to adapt an idea,
book, play, article etc. that you have acquired
into a screenplay?
There's
three ways of going:
1)
Depending on your budget, hire an A'List
writer whose credibility alone will increase
the likelihood of your project seeing a
greenlight. We can advise you on the merits
of various writers, contact their agencies and
even negotiate on your behalf. Bear in mind
though, that A'List writers tend to be very
busy and that you are unlikely to get much
response unless your budget exceeds $500,000.
2)
You can also pay an A'List writer to
pen a synopsis and pitch it to the
production companies and studios of your
choice. If you get lucky and they like it,
they will pay the writer's fees for you.
However, your participation in, and control
over the project, might be reduced
as a consequence of their carrying these
costs for you. After all, if they are paying
for it, they'll do it their way. The upside
being that it will cost you a lot less money
to get the ball rolling. Probably about
$100,000. Again, we can help you through
each step of this process and help you avoid
some potentially expensive pitfalls.
3)
The alternative and our favourite. Over
the years we have found several surpremely
talented writers who are just waiting
for their break. They are often as good,
if not better, than many of the writers
getting over $1 million a script and a lot
cheaper. You can easily end up with a complete screenplay
for less than $10,000. (If need be, you
can always have a "name" writer
do a re-write or polish for you and
end up being able to use their name for
a fraction of the price). We can arrange for you to
be sent writing samples and then discuss the merits of each writer with you.
All contractual matters can also be taken
care of through the expert legal counsel
that we work with.
